New 168-room hotel planned for Austin’s Domain
A new upscale hotel is coming to the Domain in North Austin that will be the third in the U.S. under the boutique Archer brand, developers told the American-Statesman Monday.
Slated to break ground this fall, the 168-room Archer Austin will be across from a planned Nordstrom store.
The 8-story hotel will have a rustic “Texas chic” theme, with design touches including native Texas limestone, terraces with fireplaces and canopy beds. Each of the guestrooms is being designed to have a different feel.
The hotel is being developed by Wichita-based LodgeWorks Partners, a privately-held hotel development and management company, and Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group, the original developer of the mixed-use Domain near North Mopac Boulevard (Loop 1) and Burnet Road.
“Expanding the Archer collection into a destination as engaging and exciting as The Domain in Austin is tremendous and an absolutely perfect fit,” said Mike Daood, president of LodgeWorks.
Austin Archer will join three other hotels at the Domain: Aloft, which LodgeWorks also owns; a Westin and a Lone Star Court.
An Archer hotel is set to open May 28 in Manhattan, and Archer Napa also is in the works.
In the coming months, the culinary direction of a chef-driven restaurant and bar at Archer Austin will be revealed, as well as a targeted opening date.
“When designing Archer Austin we kept the clever ‘Keep Austin Weird’ theme central to our design,” said Roger Brown, senior vice president and director of design at Law Kingdon Architecture, the project’s architect. “It is a Texas-style sense of independence that reflects the eclectic, culturally-rich way of life that is unique to Austin.”
Photos of local bands and Austin’s favorite musical venues, as well as the music itself, will be featured throughout the hotel.
The hotel will be in a growing phase of the Domain that is between the existing Neiman Marcus and Whole Foods grocery store. When completed, the 304-acre Domain is expected to include 1.8 million square-feet of retail space, 5,000 residential units, 3.5 million square feet of office space and 800 hotel rooms.
“We couldn’t be more excited about LodgeWork’s vision for Archer, said Ben Bufkin, a principal with Endeavor Real Estate Group. “Delivering a hotel with an emphasis on what makes Austin unique and exciting is a perfect addition to the retail, restaurants and entertainment venues that will be part of this next phase of The Domain.”
