A new development featuring more than 125 businesses including restaurants, retail and bars is opening in Austin at the end of September.

The Domain Northside, located next to the Domain, was once property owned by IBM.

Developer Endeavor Real Estate Group purchased the property in 1999, and has spent the past decade and a half turning the land into a mecca for shopping, dining and entertainment.

The key component: an emphasis on local business.

“We really wanted to showcase what Austin had to offer and we feel fortunate we’ve been able to attract the best in local business owners. It’s going to be a big benefit to the community,” said Principal Endeavor Developer Ben Bufkin.

Many of the businesses in Domain Northside are open early or open late, and that’s what makes it “different than a mall environment, it’s much more like a downtown environment where we open at 6 a.m. and we shut it at 2.a.m.” said Bufkin.

One of the busiest streets in the Domain Northside is Rock Rose, already open and known for the variety of bars, restaurants and retailers, many of them local.

“Instead of having to find parking downtown and driving downtown, it’s right here. It’s got restaurants, food…better than anything I’ve seen,” said Austin resident Tristan Tau.

And at this end of this month Domain Northside’s flagship store Nordstrom will open along with 75 of the nearly 125 total new businesses.

Local jewelry designer Elizabeth Gibson is opening her second store at Domain Northside.

“It’s a curated selection of the finest retailers nationally and locally so we’re really excited to be a part of that,” said Gibson, owner of Eliza Page.

She along with so many others are confident this will soon be an even more premiere location in the heart of North Austin.

Some of the other stores opening at Domain Northside soon include Hat Creek Burger Company, Golden Bones, Engel & Völkers, 24 Diner, Orangetheory Fitness, Jose Luis Salon, Sway, Velvet Taco, and Erin Condren.
