A joint U.S. Department of Defense organization has selected Endeavor Real Estate Group to develop a mammoth retail project at Fort Sam Houston near San Antonio, the firm announced late last month.

Austin-based Endeavor will serve as developer, leasing agent and property manager for the 500,000-square-foot, $80 million project, according to a press release.

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service facility will provide retail, food and entertainment venues for active and retired military personnel. It is slated to open in 2013.

The project is Endeavor’s first federal military contract and officials said it is important to enable the firm to land future contracts. The company is behind many large Austin projects, including Phase II of The Domain.
